New Drama 2024

Festival theme was philanthropy in performing arts. We wish goodness to be contagious, spreading from person to person. The illustrative element of this positive contagion became a domino. One piece next to another, if one moves, they all move. It is projected in a bespoke domino font, specially created for the festival by Tomáš Paulen. The predominantly typographical visual expresses the essence of the festival, which is made up of staging texts. At the same time, it was the jubilee 20th year, thus transforming the numbers into the letters XX. And elements from the domino font subsequently play out free compositions around the space. The colour scheme uses green as the colour of hope in two shades – darker for print outputs and neon for digital and wherever it can be technologically achieved in print.

This year, for the first time, the award was not visually linked to the annual poster. The brief was to come up with a distinctive award that could be replicated each year. The main idea was a bouquet – instead of flowers it came in the form of letters. The repeating letters are randomly scattered throughout the bouquet, consisting of letters GRANDPRIX 2024 NOVÁ DRÁMA/NEW DRAMA. The bouquet also reminds us of a torch, a traveling prize given to directors, playwrights, and authors from year to year. The winner was delivered on an extra tag, tied into a pre-made wire. Size of the award is 20 x 20 x 30 cm, prepared by 3D printing, with the winner lasered into a two-tone plastic material. More on GrandPrix awards.

Also, another prize was made. First place in DRÁMA, which is separated prize aimed at authors of dramatic texts. Concept was to have a nice table-stand, which can be wearable too. Something like a dron – can fly whereever with the winner, but then arrives at its domestic dock to park. So we made a removable brooch, reminding of a flower. Made with 3D printing technology with 100% biodegradable filaments from innovative Crafting Plastics studio.
