Bratislava City Library

Logotype and visual identity proposal for a public contest of Bratislava City Library. The basis of the library logo is the alternation of italic and regular style, bearing a reference to institution’s primary purpose – archiving of information and knowledge. Books, archive folders, paper files, everything stacked on shelves. This simple yet distinctive element opens the possibilities for unlimited variations of sub-brands.

Visual identity proposal also contained interior information system solution. We combined two elements – special bioplastic material from Crafting Plastics with trendy ink illustrations by Ové Pictures. The boards served as standard navigation tables, while ink illustrations were the bonus layer to humanize it – the soul of the brand. Since the typographic visual identity is very clean and timeless, we developed replacable illustration layer. This can be changed in future, while the basic identity stays. That way the library could express the zeitgeist over time.

Every library identity needs something to attract its costumers. We designed very functional and intuitive website. Using colour scheme for each category (children, teenagers, adults and seniors) is practical even within library itself, f.e. in marking the shelves or for external communication. And then some playful variations of the identity applied on product merch.
